It varies how long it will last, you could see a councellor during/after pregnancy?
I only know a little about this, but what I do know is that yes you have a higher chance of developing it if you have had depression before getting pregnant.
You can take medication if you are diagnosed with it, however you will not be able to breast feed at all. So you personally have to weight the risks vs. benefits for yourself.
I have 3 children. I think I was in denial after the birth of my 1st child. I was in a really crummy marriage and dirt poor. I eventually left him but I do believe that PPD made it worse then it really should of been.
5 months after the birth of my 2nd child, I got very bad depression. And horrible panic attacks. It was the worse it had ever been, in my entire life. I have never experienced something so horrendous in my life.
My baby is 7 months old and I suffered bad depression when I was about 20 weeks pregnant with her. And at about 28 weeks, I developed bad anxiety. I lived in fear for many, many months.
Finally after having a really bad fight with my husband, I went to the doctor the next day. And was put on anti depressants. And ended up in therapy.
I use to also have terrifying nightmares. The kind you wake up screaming from.
My dreams are still the same but not as horrible. I have the same dream every night basically, just different things are happening. Its the weirdest recurring dream ever.
I have been on ADs for 2 months now and where I was 2 months ago, to where I am now…its amazing really. I actually feel normal again. I am not living in a prison of anxiety and fear anymore. I actually exist in this world and not be terrified anymore.
I knew that I could not of left my condition untreated. It was horrible living in my head. I was so overwhelmed with having a newborn and a toddler. It got so crazy that I just freaked out.
If you have PPD, you should seek treatment. There is no worse feeling then depression. And its really nice to be happy and functioning again.
I’ve always had depression here and there, all my life. And so it was no surprise when I got it after the births of my kids.
At least talk to your doctor.
Or you can try some things like OMEGA 3 Mood Enhancer. HTP, SamE…herbal rememdies.
if you have a history of depression your are at a higher risk and so are moms that had c-secs. Yes it can require medications, exercise is the best way to deal with depression as well as a good diet and vitamins, usually they last a year, it is common in a lot of women to get PPD and there is nothing wrong, it just happens because of all the hormonal changes.
I did have PPD and was put on meds, and I still breastfeed under the advice of my dr and my daughters pediatrician, she is now 16 months and very healthy.
