Can antidepressants effect home pregnancy tests?
I’m late on my period by over a week and last month I only got it for 2 days or so, but every home pregnancy test I take comes back negative. I’m on a new medication for depression and since it hasn’t been out long no one knows how it works with pregnant women. I don’t have insurance so I don’t want to go in to the ob/gyn unless I’m fairly certain I am pregnant. Does anyone know anything about this?

What area do you live in? There are free clinic’s that test for pregnancy.
If you do not get your period when it is due next month you may be pregnant.
That could of been your actually period or possibly spotting.
I would suggest going to a free clinic :]
No, it would not effect the test result. Pregnancy tests (urine and blood) all work by detecting a certain hormone in your body called HCG that your body only produces once you become pregnant. If the test is negative it is because the test is not detecting the hormone. This could be for one of two reasons. One, you are not pregnant. Two, the hcg level isn’t high enough yet for the test to detect. Most tests can pick up the hcg once it has reached a level of 25-50. If the test is positive, it is only because it is detecting the hormone. Since you are over a week late, I would say that the test is accurate and something else is causing your periods to be irregular.
Depression, stress, illness, birth control can all effect your period. I would see your Dr if it continues. There should be a free or cheap women’s clinic in your area. Call your local hospital they can help direct you.
