Pregnancy Tinnitus

Maybe you have witnessed your doctor something like their problem. Perhaps he has examined your ears, informed you there is nothing physically incorrect with your ears, and perhaps even referred you to an audiologist. But, you’ve gotten no relief from your tinnitus – so far. Pregnancy Tinnitus

But, did your doctor take a look at the medications that you take on a regular basis (prescription and non-prescription) to see if they could be the cause of that insane noise? If he didn’t, I’ve listed 5 drugs that cause tinnitus, medications that millions of people take that list tinnitus as a side effect.

    * Accutane (anti-acne). While sounding pretty harmless as a form of vitamin A designed to reduce the amount of oil released by oil glands in your skin, Accutane is actually a very powerful drug that can cause severe birth defects in unborn children. It’s only available as part of a program called iPledge, which requires female patients to take birth control and undergo regular pregnancy testing. Accutane is very effective in preventing acne, but it is one of the drugs that cause tinnitus.
* Celexa (anti-depression). A member of a group of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), Celexa helps re-balance brain chemistry to treat depression. Millions of depression sufferers find relief while taking Celexa on a regular basis. But, one of the side effects of this powerful drug is a chance for tinnitus. Pregnancy Tinnitus
* Ecotrin (reduce aches, pains & fever). This popular and safe pain and fever reducing medication has provided relief to millions complaining of muscle aches and the like. But, like aspirin, Ecotrin is a member of a group of drugs called salicylates (sa-LIS-il-ates) than are well known as drugs that cause tinnitus.
* Lipitor (anti-cholesterol). Millions worldwide find that Lipitor lowers their “bad” cholesterol to a reasonable level, safely and effectively. Lipitor also can increase the “good” cholesterol, too. As a bonus, studies have shown that using lipitor reduces the risk of heart attack in certain patients. But, did your doctor tell you that one of the side effects can cause tinnitus? It can.
* Pepto-Bismol (indigestion, etc.). For treating heartburn, upset stomach, indigestion, nausea, diarrhea and suffering associated with eating too much, Pepto-Bismol works like a champ. But, like aspirin, Pepto-Bismol contains aspirin-like salicylates, a proven cause of tinnitus. Of course, Pepto-Bismol is to be used only occasionally – if you’re using Pepto-Bismol on a regular basis, you may have greater problems yet. Pregnancy Tinnitus

While this list is just a tiny fraction of drugs that cause tinnitus, you can plainly see that even the most widely-used and safest of drugs can have side effects beyond the realm of conventional thought. In no way am I suggesting that anyone discontinue the use of a doctor-prescribed medication or change dosages without FIRST consulting your doctor.

Depression medication during pregnancy is a tough call for doctors and patients alike because in most cases during pregnancy any and all medications should be avoided if possible. Of course there are always exceptions that require the mother to be on medication.

Depression and anxiety treatment is one such an exception. Lexapro is an anti-depressant drug that has been proven to successfully treat anxiety and depression. It is the newest addition to the family of drugs known as the Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors. Pregnancy medicine has a rating and it must be noted that Lexapro is a category “C” medicine. This means it should be given to pregnant women only if the benefits to the mother outweigh the risks to the newborn. This is the deciding factor for doctors when using any depression medication during pregnancy.

Possible risks associated with Lexapro: Studies have shown that babies born to mothers using Lexapro can develop a condition called persistent pulmonary hypertension. This condition is characterized by babies having abnormal blood flow to the lungs and heart and a low overall level of oxygen in the blood. This indicates a higher than normal occurrence of illness and deaths for babies with PPHN vs. those babies not afflicted. Lexapro also poses and increased risk of birth defects in babies. These are usually heart defects that can only be repaired surgically. Other side effects demonstrated by the babies who have been exposed to Lexapro include constant crying, feeding problems and insomnia.

In addition, babies whose mothers used Lexapro have also been seen to be hyperactive and to develop symptoms such as high-pitched crying, disturbed sleep and seizures. In some cases low birth weight is believed to be caused by Lexapro. The drugs use during the later part of pregnancy has resulted in fetal complications that required the mother to be hospitalized in some cases.

You are probably wondering with this long list of potentially dangerous side effects why would anyone use Lexapro? In reality the biggest risk for any fetus is it’s mother’s state of mind, be it caused by anxiety or depression. Premature delivery is often the result of depression and anxiety during pregnancy. Left untreated a mother’s depression and fragile mental state can cause direct harm to the unborn baby. So in cases where the mother’s depression must be treated Lexapro is the best alternative of the drugs available for treating depression medication during pregnancy.

Always consult your doctor with all of your health information. Let them know you are pregnant before starting any treatment for depression. If you were not pregnant when starting a depression medication program let all your doctors know when you become pregnant so adjustments can be made. For more information regarding depression visit http://www.depressiontreatmentsblog.com and learn more about depression medication during pregnancy.

What is 5-HTP?

The Griffonia Extract is rich in 5-HydroxyTryptophan (5-HTP), which comes from an African vegetable, the Griffonia simplicifolia seed, and contains 30% 5-HTP. 5-HTP is an amino acid that is a direct precursor of serotonin, an important neurotransmitter having pain soothing and relaxing effects. 5-HTP is not present in significant amounts in a typical diet. The human body manufactures 5-HTP from L-tryptophan, a natural amino acid found in most dietary proteins. However, eating food that contains L-tryptophan does not significantly increase 5-HTP levels.

5-HTP and Serotonin

5-HTP is the precursor to serotonin. It improves mood, anxiety and is beneficial in weight loss. 5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) is an amino acid that is the intermediate step between tryptophan and the important brain chemical serotonin. There is a massive amount of evidence that suggests that low serotonin levels are a common consequence of modern living. The lifestyle and dietary practices of many people living in this stress-filled era results in lowered levels of serotonin within the brain.

5-HTP and Carb Cravings

Researchers believe that inadequate serotonin levels are in part responsible for the desire to overeat. Not surprisingly, obese individuals who crave carbohydrates usually show abnormally low levels of serotonin. Taking a 5-HTP supplement half an hour before a meal can ” turn off” cravings and hunger pangs by feeding the brains carbohydrate satiety center. In this way 5-HTP can be a great asset as part of a weight-loss regime.

5-HTP and Addiction

The use of many addictive substances, such as tobacco, alcohol, caffeine and certain narcotics, elevates serotonin levels. When these substances are eliminated, serotonin levels drop drastically, causing anxiety and cravings. Taking 5-HTP can stabilize serotonin levels and help minimize the symptoms of withdrawal.

5-HTP and PMS

PMS sufferers report pain relief, as well as decreased irritability and mood swings from using 5-HTP. The supplement works by countering the hormone-induced decrease in serotonin levels that occur naturally during menstruation.

5-HTP and Sleep

Because of its calming effect, many rely on 5-HTP to alleviate stress-attacks, as well as to encourage restful sleep. Unlike sedative drugs, 5-HTP is not associated with unwanted side effects, such as disturbed sleep patterns or grogginess. It can be taken regularly one hour before retiring as a remedy for insomnia.

Side Effects

Very high intakes of 5-HTP have caused muscle jerks in guinea pigs and both muscle jerks and diarrhea in mice. Injected 5-HTP has also caused kidney damage in rats. To date, these problems have not been reported in humans. “Serotonin syndrome,” a serious but uncommon condition caused by excessive amounts of serotonin, has not been reported to result from supplementation with 5-HTP; in theory it could be triggered by the supplement. However, the level of intake at which this toxic effect might potentially occur remains unknown.

Warnings

5-HTP should not be taken with antidepressants, weight-control drugs, other serotonin-modifying agents, or substances known to cause liver damage, because in these cases 5-HTP may have excessive effects. People with liver disease may not be able to regulate 5-HTP adequately and those suffering from autoimmune diseases such as scleroderma may be more sensitive than others, to 5-HTP. These people should not take 5-HTP without consulting a knowledgeable healthcare professional. The safety of taking 5-HTP during pregnancy and breast-feeding is not known at this time.

Conditions with low serotonin levels helped by 5-HTP:

• Depression

• Obesity

• Carbohydrate craving

• Bulimia

• Insomnia

• Narcolepsy

• Sleep apnea

• Migraine headaches

• Tension headaches

• Chronic daily headaches

• Premenstrual syndrome

• Fibromyalgia

These conditions may increase the risk of irregular heartbeats, heart attack, and death while taking Geodon.
•Do not take Geodon with any of the following drugs: mesoridazine (Serentil), thioridazine (Mellaril, others), chlorpromazine (Thorazine), pimozide (Orap), droperidol (Inapsine), quinidine (Cardioquin, Quinaglute Dura-Tabs, Quinidex, Quinora, others), dofetilide (Tikosyn), sotalol (Betapace, Betapace AF, others), moxifloxacin (Avelox), gatifloxacin (Tequin), sparfloxacin (Zagam), mefloquine (Lariam), pentamidine (Pentam 300), arsenic trioxide (Trisenox), dolasetron (Anzemet), levomethadyl acetate (Orlaam), or tacrolimus (Prograf). Taken with any of these drugs, Geodon may cause irregular heartbeats that could lead to death. This is not a complete list of drugs that may interact with Geodon and cause heart problems. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking any other prescription or over-the-counter medications, including herbal products, while taking Geodon.
•Hyperglycemia (increased blood sugar) has been reported in patients treated with atypical antipsychotics including Geodon. Talk to your doctor if you experience any signs of hyperglycemia including excessive thirst, frequent urination, excessive hunger, or weakness.
•Contact your doctor immediately if you experience symptoms that may indicate heart rhythm problems such as dizziness, palpitations, or fainting.
•Call your doctor immediately if you experience uncontrollable movements of the mouth, tongue, cheeks, jaw, arms, or legs.
•Call your doctor immediately if you experience fever, sweating, severe muscle stiffness (rigidity), confusion, or fast or irregular heartbeats. These could be symptoms of a potentially fatal side effect called Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (NMS).
•Use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. Geodon may cause dizziness or drowsiness. If you experience dizziness or drowsiness, avoid these activities.
•Dizziness may be more likely to occur when you rise from a sitting or lying position. Rise slowly to prevent dizziness and a possible fall.
•Avoid alcohol or use it with caution while taking Geodon. Alcohol may increase drowsiness and dizziness while taking Geodon.
•Avoid becoming overheated in hot weather and during exercise. Geodon may increase the risk of heat stroke.
What is Geodon?
•Geodon is an antipsychotic medication. It works by changing the effects of chemicals in the brain.
•Geodon is used to manage the symptoms of psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia that may include hearing voices; seeing things or sensing things that are not there; mistaken beliefs; unusual suspiciousness; or becoming withdrawn from family and friends. Geodon is also used to treat bipolar mania.
•Geodon may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before taking Geodon?
•Do not take Geodon if you have any of the following conditions or a history of these conditions: heart disease; an irregular heartbeat or a history of irregular heartbeats; a history of prolonged QT intervals; a family history of congenital long QT syndrome; or other heartbeat disturbances. Talk to your doctor if you experience any signs of hyperglycemia including excessive thirst, frequent urination, excessive hunger, or weakness.
•Geodon is in the FDA pregnancy category C. This means that it is not known whether Geodon will be harmful to an unborn baby. Do not take Geodon without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment.
•It is not known whether Geodon passes into breast milk. Do not take Geodon without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
•If you are over the age of 65, you may be more likely to experience side effects from Geodon.

Modern anti-depressant medications were first made available in 1987. Known as SSRIs – Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors – these are medications that are only available with a prescription. They were originally formulated to relieve both depression as well as anxiety disorders.

However, over the course of time doctors began to prescribe them for a wide variety of additional psychiatric and physical maladies. This conditions included alcoholism, bulimia nervosa, obesity, OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder), PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder), and borderline personality disorder.

Many of today’s doctors prescribe SSRIs because they feel that they are safer, more effective and tolerated better than other drugs.

The SSRIs that are most prescribed by doctors include Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, Celexa, and Lexapro.

Generally, SSRIs are relatively safe medications. Side effects, if any, usually aren’t dangerous. For the most part it’s rare for a doctor to discontinue or even reduce the dosage because of a patient’s negative reaction.

However, this is definitely not the case when expectant mothers take SSRIs during their pregnancy. This class of drug can actually pose considerable health risks for their unborn child.

A study involving SSRIs and pregnancy was published in 2006. After the study was published the FDA issued an advisory.

The study, can be found in the New England Journal of Medicine. It compared expectant women who had taken SSRIs during the last 4 ½ months of their pregnancy with women who either did not take any SSRIs during any time of their pregnancy or had discontinued taking them within the first 4 ½ months of being pregnant.

After the results were tallied the study disclosed that women who took SSRIs during the second half of their pregnancy had a 600% greater chance of delivering a baby with PPHN (Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn). PPHN is a life threatening condition. This often fatal condition affects a newborn’s capacity to breathe.

Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn restricts the flow of blood to an infant’s lungs and the quantity of oxygen that enters the baby’s bloodstream. It requires immediate attention because it usually results in severe respiratory failure.

In addition there were other complications that were not as severe in 20% to 30% of the babies that were born to women who had taken SSRIs during the latter part of their pregnancies.

In addition to SSRIs there are quite a few other medications that have been associated with serious birth traumas when they were taken during pregnancy.

If your baby suffered a birth injury because of medications that your doctor prescribed then you may be able to take legal action to fight for your child’s rights.

If you would like to seek justice on behalf of your child then you can take advantage of free consultation offered by an experienced birth injury lawyer.

Stablon is an antidepressant medication, consisting of Tianeptine, used to treat people suffering from depressive disorders as mood or panic disorder, dysthmia [adjustment disorder], post-traumatic stress disorder [PTSD], or major depression. Stablon is a pain-reliever as well, isn’t as addictive as mu-selective opioids, and doesn’t sedate. It doubles up as a fast-acting bronchodilator – the ideal choice for alcoholic asthmatics undergoing depression, as it makes the patients feel well without making them feel intoxicated or leaving a hangover that accompanies alcohol.

Stablon for stability: Stablon containing Tianeptine, is beneficial in treating the entire range of depressive illnesses afflicting people. Serotonin, a neurotransmitter, is believed to control moods, sleeping pattern and body temperature, and works by transporting signals from one nerve cell to another, but when it gets re-attached to the parent nerve, it upsets the chemical balance in the brain. Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors [SSRIs] inhibit the work of serotonin, by not letting it get re-attached to its parent nerve, thereby correcting the chemical imbalance in the brain. Tianeptine is a selective serotonin reuptake accelerator yet, surprisingly, it does not have an adverse impact on the brain; in ways not understood by scientists, it works towards maintaining the brain’s chemical balance! It is used to treat severe or chronic depression, dysthmia [adjustment disorder], mood or panic disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder [PTSD].

For those considering treatment with Stablon, it is essential to give your complete medical history to your psychiatrist/treating doctor, informing the physician of all the medicines being taken by you [including OTC, prescription, nutritional supplements, herbal products], and any known allergies, so that your doctor can work out the correct dose regimen for you. The physician should know if you are an alcoholic, suffer from a kidney ailment or have asthma.

Should you have to undergo a surgery, you must inform the surgeon/doctor that you are taking this medicine, as soon as surgery is recommended. Treatment with Stablon has to be suspended normally at least 24-48 hours before a surgical procedure takes place; emergency operations can take place under vigilant operative supervision. If the medicine is suspended because of a surgery, for re-starting the dose, you must consult your physician.

Stablon [Generic Tianeptine] is an oral medication, taken usually 3 times in a day. The medicine is quickly absorbed, and as quickly eliminated by the body, so to derive full benefit from the medication, you have to stick to the dose regimen. A missed dose can be taken if you remember an hour or two later, but not otherwise. Doses must never be doubled, so take Stablon exactly as advised by your psychiatrist/physician.

All medicines have some side effects; if you take Stablon, you might experience mild dizziness, headache, abdominal pain, constipation, nausea, or vivid and complicated dreams. If these symptoms persist, or become worse, or any other unusual symptoms occur including chest pain, difficulty in breathing, insomnia, decreased sense of libido, asthenia [loss of strength], trembling, fainting, myalgia [muscular pain], or anorexia [prolonged loss of appetite], then you have to stop taking the medicine and immediately contact your treating doctor, or the emergency room. Stablon is known to have the least number of side-effects amongst antidepressants.

This medicine cannot be taken alongside MAO inhibitors, neither does it work well if combined with other anti-depressants, Saliclyic acid [especially at high plasma concentrations], or SSRIs like Prozac. It is well-tolerated by everyone – especially the geriatric population – and very effective for those who suffer from memory problems.

Stablon should be properly capped, and stored at room temperature away from heat and dampness, out of reach of children and pets. Any medicine that has passed the expiry date or is no longer being used should be properly discarded. Stablon is not recommended for children below 15. Pregnant or lactating women, or those considering pregnancy, must consult their gynaecologist/psychiatrist before starting treatment with Stablon. Don’t stop taking the medicine on your own and don’t share it with anyone else. Though this is a non-sedating medicine, you may check with your physician whether you should drive or operate machinery while on Tianeptine.

Tianeptine has an extremely calming effect by reducing irritability and impulsiveness; though it functions similarly to mu-opioids, it does not lend to aggressive behavior in individuals. While curing psychological disorders, SSRIs are known to dampen libido, but Stablon [Tianeptine] is different – it is known to have saved families and friendships from disintegrating, and prevented many-a-marriage from going-on-the-rocks.

Stablon is a friend for those in distress. To overcome depression and start living happily, Buy Stablon online from our Online Pharmacy.

I’m bipolar and 20 weeks pregnant. Right now I’m seriously in the low end of the spectrum. I’m really worried about post partem depression considering that I’m already prone to having manic/depression episodes. I’ve taken the meds before and I can’t function even on the low doses. Anti-depressants don’t work at all. I just wanted to hear other people who may have been bipolar during pregnancy.

And yes, I will be speaking to my doctor, but that doesn’t do any good without hearing some other opinions on the matter. I’ve tried going non-medicated and I really don’t believe that it’s very healthy for me to go without.

Just give me an opinion and preferably not a condescending one.

I’ve had issues with depression since I was a little kid. Although I’m 23 now, I’ve never actually been on anything to help it. I’m 30 weeks and some odd days pregnant (almost 31 weeks). For the last 3 weeks or so, my depression has gotten really bad. I don’t really know why it’s gotten like this because there doesn’t seem to have been any kind of trigger for it. I’m sure that, at least to a certain extent, pregnancy hormones are probably having some effect on the actual depression. It’s just been hard to sleep or really function in my everyday life with my brain sabatoging me like this. I’m just curious if there are any anti-depressants that are fairly safe to use while pregnant.

I’d also like to point out that I have an appointment with my doctor on the 23rd, so I will be asking him about this as well.

I have had 7 pregnancies, 5 live births and 2 missed miscarriages in the second trimester. With my first 3 children I wasn’t on any anti-depressants, then with #4 I was and gave birth to a healthy baby. Pregnancy #5 was on them and miscarried, #6 on a different one, and gave birth to a healthy baby. Then was on a different one again and miscarried. The prescriptions I was on were Zoloft, Paxil, Welbutrin, and effexor…at different times. I am having trouble accepting that 2 miscarriages in second trimester is just a coinincedence….just wondering if anyone has any insight on these medications while pregnant. Doctors have had no problem prescribing them to me, infact have recommended them. But really I wonder how much have these drugs with pregnancy been studied? Any help would be great! Thanks! Sorry if this was confusing.
I would like to add to save some ignorant people time, yes I’m aware I have a large family. I have 4 kids from a previous marriage, which by the way I am still very good friends with my ex, and I have 1 with my husband now. I am deeply in love and only wish to have 1 more child with him. We have a wonderful family and my husband is great, he comes from a family of 9 kids and we both share the desire to have one more child together. I suffer from depression mostly while pregnant, so this is why this is an issue….Thank you:)

I am 28 weeks (Sun) and my OB prescribed Lexapro for me today. I have battled with depression off and on for years but it has taken a serious toll on me throughout this pregnancy. I stopped taking anti-depressants upon learning of this pregnancy and I have steadily sunk deeper and deeper into a severe depression since. I finally got enough courage to tell my OB about it today and she immediately suggested medication. I was somewhat suprised at her not thinking twice about putting me on an anti-depressant during pregnancy. She assured me that the baby will not be affected and that it is for the best for both me and baby. I would like to know some of your stories of anti-depressants and pregnancy. Are your babies healthy? Any complications? How far along were you when on meds? What med were you on? What was your level of depression? Would you do it again? Any info on your personal story please!

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had ever taken the anti-anxiety anti-depressant drug Citalopram during their pregnancy. The doctor has given it to me for severe panic attacks and anxiety which is making me feel terrible. I am 29 weeks pregnant. So far I have not taken it as I do not want to harm my baby, but I am so anxious I feel permaneltly sick and short of beath and do not know what to do. I am sure the doctor is right and it is safe, but the instructions inside paint a rather ambiguous unknown picture of the effects upon both the unborn foetus and a newborn baby.

What should I do? Has anyone else taken this or suffered terrible panic attacks, anxiety and paranoia during pregnancy? I feel like I am going mad, I used to be a normal girl, and I was so happy when I first found out I was pregnant. Please advise me.
