It is perfectly normal and healthy to gain weight during pregnancy. This ensures that both yourself and your baby are being nourished properly. Weight loss after pregnancy can at times be slow for new mothers and be very frustrating. It is important not to start a crash diet shortly after you have had your baby. This will lead to health problems and possibly post partum depression. Many new mothers don’t realize, but even after pregnancy your body still needs an ample supply of nutrients to recuperate and it needs even more if you are breastfeeding. Breastfeeding mothers on average use an extra 500 calories per day, so don’t rush things.

Your doctor will undoubtedly recommend avoiding any sort of strenuous exercise until you have at least had your six week post partum visit. The truth is, that until this time you probably won’t be too up for anything too strenuous anyways. During this time walking is the best form of exercise, it not only will help improve your health, but it will also help you lose pregnancy weight.

Getting Started

* Eat lots of fruit, vegetables and whole grains. Foods high in fibre, such as these, provide you with many nutrients and also make you feel full longer. Other great food choices to consider are low-fat dairy products, poultry, most fish, lean cuts of beef and pork are also all good sources of protein as well as zinc, iron and B vitamins. * Keep tempting foods out of the house. If you don’t believe that you can control cravings for chips and icecream, as tasty as they are to eat, keep away and keep them out of the house. * Small portions are key. Don’t skip meals or limit your intake of fruits and vegetables, you’ll miss essential nutrients that you need. Instead, scale down your portions of higher calorie foods. * If you are breast feeding, feed your baby right before you start your exercise. Wear a supportive bra and comfortable clothing. Start out slowly. Start with light aerobic activity, such as walking, riding a stationary bike or even swimming. Avoid jumping or jarring motions. * Break up your routine. exercise in short sessions throughout your day. As you build up your stamina again, slowly increase the amount and the intensity of your workouts. * Bring your baby along. Your baby is in demand of your time and attention, so what a better way to spend it, helping yourself lose some pregnancy weight. Take your baby for a walk in a stroller or a carrier. If you prefer jogging to walking make sure you use a jogging stroller specifically designed for infants. Lay with your baby on the floor while you stretch. Hold him or her in your arms and dance around to your favorite music, they will love it. * Focus on your abs. Losing abdominal fat takes dietary changes and aerobic exercise, but abdominal crunches and other exercises that target your abs can also help tone your tummy. * Don’t forget your Kegels. These exercise won’t necessarily help to lose pregnancy weight, but they will help to tone your pelvic floor muscles. Simply tighten your pelvic muscles as if you’re stopping your pee in mid stream. Do this for five seconds at a time, four to five times in a row. The good thing about Kegels is that you can do them anywhere anytime and no one will ever know.

Remember it took 9 months or so for the pregnancy weight to get there, it’s going to take time for it to come off. Don’t lose your motivation and or get frustrated if results are slow coming, just keep going and you will see results soon.

One of the most critical stages in a woman’s life is during pregnancy. It is paramount that one should keep one’s health in tiptop condition in order to ascertain that both mother and child will be healthy. As such, expectant mothers put a lot of premium on their health, knowing that they are embarking on a journey at the end of which a new life will emerge. However, what most women should know is that it is not only during pregnancy where utmost care should be taken. It is also important to pay attention to one’s health after pregnancy. This is because there is still the possibility that complications may set in even after the baby has been delivered.

Why It Is Important to be Mindful on the Changes after Pregnancy

Most women just ignore their state of health as long as their baby is already safe. However, this behavior is indeed very risky as most women who have experienced a lot of difficulties after birth can tell. This is why recovery after pregnancy should also be given the detailed attention that was given during pregnancy.

The main consideration in recovering after a pregnancy is to prepare a woman for possible physical effects. These changes are to be expected. After all, pregnancy is a life-changing journey with plenty of baggage. In order to make recovery after pregnancy easier, it is important that one should be familiar with the common difficulties experienced after childbirth.

Coping with Changes after Pregnancy

The following are the most common changes that a woman may encounter after pregnancy:

1) Psychological changes. This refers to the changes in a woman’s mental perception of herself as well as of the people around her. For most women, this period involves great adjustments and difficulties such as coping with a new role of being a mother and learning the proper ways to care for the baby. For other women, they get easily depressed at the physical changes such as gaining weight, which may alter her sense of beauty.

2) Physical changes. This is the most number of changes encountered after pregnancy and one that involves a lot of adjustments. The following are some of the most common physical changes after delivery:

3) Constipation. A woman may find it difficult to discharge for a few days after delivery. Moreover, there may be some hemorrhoids accompanied by sore muscles that make bowel discharge very difficult.

4) Sore perineum. This usually happens if you have hemorrhoids or an episiotomy, which is a surgical incision of the area between the anus and the vagina. As a result, a woman will find it difficult to walk for several days. Knowing this in advance should help a woman cope with it properly without going through a stressful period.

5) Hot and cold flashes. This is expected because of your body’s hormonal changes.

6) Sore breasts. This is mainly due to the new formation of milk in the breasts. The nipples may also become sore.

7) Weight loss. Immediately after pregnancy, a woman will feel a few pounds lighter than her usual weight. However, as her body adjusts to the new condition, it may rapidly gain weight, unless it’s carefully monitored.

I Thought I’d Never Get My Body Back After PregnancyWhen a woman is pregnant, her foremost thought is, I will never get My body back after pregnancy! For some people it is hard to imagine anyone thinks that about themselves. However, when a woman gains over 30 pounds while being pregnant has the baby and only two pounds come off after birth, it is hard to fathom ever feeling normal again. After having a baby, the weight sticks around and is actually sometimes quite hard to lose. Spending nine months with lack of energy, sore and swollen feet and really just feeling pretty much like a blob, only to find that after having the baby you feel the same way is pretty depressing to most women. When I had my first child, I had gained 68 pounds and really felt like I would never get My body back after pregnancy. In fact, after several months, I found myself still over 30 pounds overweight and had to keep buying larger clothing in order to look somewhat decent. I wasn’t happy about this situation.I remember feeling ugly and felt that I had to be self-conscious in front of my husband. A lot of women feel this way after pregnancy because the excess weight is so hard to lose, and because their body is definitely changed after carrying a baby for nine months. If you go on a crash diet trying to lose the weight, you won’t have enough energy to take care of your child. One cost effective way of losing that “baby fat” is to try http://www.StripThatFat-Discount.info. Their product is inexpensive, and it really worked for me. It has been proven to work for a lot of women. It seems that this product can help you lose the weight quicker than you might on your own. Because it’s “baby fat” and not just fat from overeating, it is a little trickier to lose the weight. But if you have been thinking, I will never get My body back after pregnancy; this product may be the one for you.http://www.StripThatFat-discount.info offers a 60 day money back guarantee for anyone who tries their product and is less than satisfied with it.So if you have been thinking, I will never get My body back after pregnancy, you should try http://www.Stripthatfat-discount.info and see if they can help you get your body back to the way it was before you had your baby.

After giving birth a key concern for new mothers is how to get their bodies back into shape and to regain their pre-pregnancy figure. Often there is an image that women should be able to get back into shape in just a few weeks following pregnancy. There is much media attention focused on celebrity mothers who manage to regain their amazing figures, but note that this is not normal and they have a lot more help than the average new mother. It can take around six months for you to eventually regain your pre-pregnancy shape.Exercise is always a great way to get fit after pregnancy, though everything must be done in moderation. Exercise and weight loss after pregnancy will always be made easier if you exercised before and during your pregnancy. However, even if you did not there are many ways to get into shape post-pregnancy. Exercise will also help to reduce the risk of depression and will not interfere with breast-feeding.Do not try to exercise too much, too soon, as this will ultimately damage your health and it is generally recommended that women wait up to two months before exercising properly. At first, try methods such as going for walks when you can, taking your baby with you. You may then begin a regime consisting in simple leg stretches, as well as exercises specifically targeted to tightening the pelvic floor muscle. Sit-ups will also target the abdominal and help you regain a flat tummy. Try to work out for about half an hour each time, aiming to do this around three times a week in order to get rid of baby weight. It is not the case that you must exercise every single day: stick to a routine that you are comfortable with. Accept the fact that it takes time and moderation and you will slowly begin to regain your pre-pregnancy figure.

Taking care of a small child involves a lot of responsibilities and constant attention. This does not mean that new mothers should neglect keeping fit. Exercising after pregnancy can help you lose weight, but also allow you to have enough energy throughout the long days and nights. You can also reshape your body to get the figure you had before. It has been proven that the higher level of physical activity also relaxes the minds and improves the mood, which can reduce the risk of getting depression after birth.

The main question most women have is when they should start exercising. The answer depends on a number of factors. If you have had a vaginal delivery without any complications, then you can begin to train your body only days after giving birth. Women who have had a c-section or experienced problems during the delivery should consult their physician before starting to work out. Generally, if you want to be on the safe side, you may want to rest more actively for six weeks after giving birth and begin exercising only afterwards.

The level of intensity of the physical activity is also very important. You should not rush and have long and tiring cardio and muscle strengthening training sessions. Recent research has revealed that intensive exercising after pregnancy can make the breast milk unpleasant for the baby. Still, if you have moderate physical activity this function will not be affected in any way especially if you wear a reliable supportive bra and breast feed your child before working out.

Most experts recommend that you start with very basic cardio exercises such as walking. You can even take your baby along if the weather is fine. Then you can begin jogging and swimming. If you want to work out more intensively in the gym and lift weights, you have to make sure that you increase the intensity of the training gradually.

Kegel exercising after pregnancy is really beneficial for your health and for your sex life. You can strengthen your pelvic floor muscle (the one you use to stop urinating) by squeezing it. Sets of 10 reps can be done twice to three times a day and increase the intensity gradually. You should not overwork this muscle and if you feel any discomfort you should stop immediately.

Overall, exercising after pregnancy has a number of advantages, but in order for it not to affect you negatively you should avoid dehydration and drinking plenty of water is of great importance.

Many women suffer from depression during and after pregnancy. For those who suffer from depression while pregnant, it can be difficult to decide whether or not drug therapy is needed. Certain antidepressants carry with them a risk of birth defects to the fetus. Now, there might be a new way to treat depression during pregnancy without the use of drugs: acupuncture.

A new study found that more than 60 percent of pregnant women who received acupuncture treatment reported improvement in their symptoms. Researchers examined 150 participants who were suffering from moderate to severe depression and who had suffered an average of three depressive episodes. Only one third of the study participants had suffered from depression prior to becoming pregnant; the rest of the participants developed symptoms of depression while pregnant. About twenty-five percent of the participants had been taking prescription antidepressant drugs before they found out they were pregnant but stopped taking their medication once learning of the pregnancy.

The acupuncture that was practiced in this study focuses specifically on treating depression. It can be difficult to find an acupuncturist who specializes in depression. Moreover, many insurance companies do not cover the costs of acupuncture, which might make such a treatment inaccessible for many pregnant women.

The results of the study suggest that acupuncture treatment may be as effective as drug therapy for treating depression in pregnant women. However, the results contradict the findings of previous studies of non-pregnant individuals. Such studies have shown that the effects of acupuncture treatment on depression are no greater than the effects of placebos. As a result, additional studies will be needed to determine whether acupuncture can indeed be a viable treatment for depression among pregnant women. Still, the results suggest that acupuncture may be worth a try for women who are seeking alternatives to drug treatments during their pregnancy.

I had a miscarriage(my first pregnancy) back in February and I’m not sure I have been able to grieve properly. It wasn’t so bad right after as I pretty much just stuffed it away and never talked about it. But it’s been getting worse over time with this past month being so awful: I cry all the time, I’m always angry, I don’t sleep well. I’ve wanted to try to talk to someone, but my husband doesn’t want to as he sees it as over and done with and thinks it shouldn’t be issue anymore. I don’t feel comfortable talking to my mother about it. My two best friends live on the other side of the country and it seems like they’ve been trying to avoid talking to me ever since I told them I miscarried. One of them had a baby in June and everyone’s been all worried about her because she has postpartum depression. But does anyone think to ask me if I’m okay? I’m the one whose baby died, and yet no one cares. And it seems like every time I turn around someone else I know is pregnant. It makes me so angry and I hate everyone and I just can’t take this anymore.

I have no choice but to get an abortion because it has become a life-threatening pregnancy and I have a little one at home I need to be around for.

I had manageable depression before this pregnancy, but since I got pregnant it has become unbearable. Life doesnt really seem livable anymore though I remind myself it is probably the hormone. While the idea of the abortion was very sad, I am at peace with the decision because I know I have no other choice if I want to survive.

Will the depression subside again once the abortion takes place? Do any of you have similar experiences with depression and abortion?

******If you do not have any advice or have never had an abortion, you can disregard this question now. I’m not looking for mean answers. Thanks******

I had an abortion 2.5 years ago and I am STILL suffering horribly from the depression. I recently told myself I would seek medical help. I was only a tad over a month a long, but the abortion was decided upon due to medical risk..of a very much wanted baby that I could afford..and that was made with love, with my sweetheart. So I know we are all different..and perhaps that it was why it was very traumatic for me. The procedure/clinic was also a bad experience just because of a lot of things I saw and heard. They don’t treat you nice either..so perhaps that was just my luck.

I struggle with the depression every single day of my life and have not been the same since. It bothers me a lot because I have always believed in God and promised him, at 13, to never have an abortion…and have sex before marriage. It was something I did on my own..my parents weren’t that religious..boy did I not know any better. The sex thing lasted until about 18..and I didn’t get married…then this. It tears my heart apart. It was my first pregnancy. For those who had depression/etc. after an abortion…did it ever heal, go away..or have you since resolved it with a certain measure?

**************Please star my question**************************************

I realized a couple of years ago that I was an accidental pregnancy. Not only that, but my mom told me that if she had her chance over again, she wouldn’t have had me. Even though I’m a very cheerful and happy person generally, whenever I think about this, I feel very sad and sometimes unloved. I imagine what life would have been like if I had been aborted and it’s a really horrible thought – I have even lost sleep over it! I feel sad almost to the point of tears when I think about all those babies who have been aborted and whenever I read about abortion in the media, I constantly think about what if that baby was me. I have an awesome life other than massive issues with my mom – loving & committed relationship with girlfriend, very healthy, generally happy and doing really well at college. It’s only this I worry about and I worry about it constantly. Any thoughts – might I have depression?

I have always wanted kids. Ever since I was 13, I have dreamed of the day I would become a mommy. After a tubal pregnancy a few years ago, I was told I could never have kids, and although I believed it, I couldn’t help but feel the pang of jealousy when a friend or a coworker told me they were expecting, or when I saw a baby in the store.

In November a hose plant in my small community laid off 65 people. My boyfriend was one of them. There are no jobs available now, but we knew we would be ok on my income and our savings.

December 9th, I went to the doctor and found out that I am pregnant, and now I’m devastated. Shortly after wards, I had to leave my job due to medical concerns surrounding the pregnancy. We do have medicaid, and have a budget in place so we know we will be ok financially, but I’m still feeling depressed.

I cannot make myself excited about this pregnancy, and I don’t know why. I thought hearing the heartbeat and seeing the ultrasound would help, but it hasn’t. What do I do? Has anyone else had this problem?

Your Question
depression, possible pregnancy, so stressed and only 15 :’(?
I’ve been suffering serious depression recently over a teacher i fell in love with him and i went crazy i was in so much pain and in such a dark place. I attemped suicide many times but unfortuntly all failed pathetically i began self harm to a very serious and nasty state and slit open my wrist at school and had to have stiches thats when my parents found out i self harmed and i got some real help.
I now see a pro councillor at the hospital.
During this i met a boy same age and very simillar like he says im the female version of him. He used to self harm but had long stopped by the time i met him. We had a rough start as there was antother girl involved.
We are now happy together and in a very strong relationship. but we have started being sexually active and im having to lie to my mum and everyone and its making me feel more distant to her and when i was really depressed i really fell away from all my family and i dont want that to happen again.
this major depression was like 2/3 months ago now
I still see my councillor and have feelings for this teacher but now my bf is around they arent half as strong and powerful.

Just lately i’ve been really worried im pregnant because my period hasnt come although thats been late for a while and no ones sure why. My mum and councillor think its coz i dont eat really and ive lost weight, so they are taking me to be weighed and measured and have a blood test to see if im anemic.

We’ve only had sex once and it wasnt real sex coz it was my first time and we had no condom but it did go in for a little bit so i got the after morning pill the next day and she said i have to come back for a preg test if my period hasnt arrived in 3 weeks and a cylamidia test.

Im getting really stressed about all these tests and worried if i am preg i dont see how its possible but still im panicking and everyones getting on at me for not eating but i eat less when im stressed anyway so that only gets worse.

Everyones telling me that my bf is a player and using me but i dont believe it and they dont know him like i do and i trust him and i just tell myself if he leaves me i can kill myself and i dont have to suffer so i dont worry about it,

i need some advice, assurance and help please just a few kind words to de-stress me coz i cant talk to my mum about it :’( or anyone else and its making me feel isolated

I am 18 weeks pregnant and wondering if anyone out there has ever taken antidepressants while pregnant. I have suffered from postpartum depression in the past (after my second child was born) and was put on antidepressants for it then. I came off and have been doing relatively well until I got pregnant for a fourth time. I got pregnant when my third baby was only six months old, so I am not sure if it is a postpartum depression or possibly just a combination of postpartum and being pregnant again so quickly. I am very unsure as to what I can take in terms of antidepressants or natural remedies. I have heard that if I take antidepressants while pregnant my baby will have to go through withdrawal once her or she is born and I don’t think I want to do that to my baby, but at the same time right now I feel like I am losing it. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks so much.
