How do anti-depressants effect an unborn baby?
I’m just curious; if say I were to get pregnant now, & I’m on anti-depressants, (Prozac) how would that effect the fetus? I’ve always wondered & been scared I would have to have an abortion because it would complicate the pregnancy, cause birth defects, etc.
I’m not pregnant or thinking about getting pregnant; this is just out of curiosity & a “what if” because I am on medication.

it would affect just as it affects you (mentally I mean), and sometimes to a greater extent because the fetus/newborn baby’s brain is not as developed as an adult’s would be..
I don’t know about birth defects (like missing, deformed limbs…)
Honestly, I would tell your doctor if you were pregnant or think you are because some anti-depressants can affect the unborn child even cause miscarriage. DO NOT stop taking it though, you need to contact your doctor first. But, it’s an SSRI which can affect the lungs of a fetus. Hope it helps and good luck
