Possibly pregnant but on anxiety medication?

I am possibly pregnant and I have been on anxiety medication for 5 months. Before anyone says ask your doctor, Dont worry I am but has anyone on here gone through there pregnancy on anxiety or anti depression pills and everything turned out fine?
I am on a generic form of Celexa
Celexa is also used for anxiety not just depression.

what medicine is it?? I was on two antidepressants and a mood stablizer and the baby is so far fine but I had to get off all of my medications, which was tough. I have soem other friends who took one all throughout her pregnancy and the baby is fine. It’s important to know the mediciation. Don’t worry Im sure you are fine. I worried alot and my baby is fine…..good luck and congrats if you are!!
i”m too and my dr said it was ok. well I guess it depends on which medication though. if you are on zoloft, you are probably ok
I’m sorry to tell you but both are very harmful to the fetus, it is likely you will be take off your medication until after you give birth, unless it is impossible.

Celxa (Citalopram) is an antidepressant, not an antianxiety medication, it should not be taken during pregnancy because it is a class C drug. Studies on animals show adverse effect and toxicity on fetus. No adequate and well controlled studies have been done on pregnant women. (most likely due to poor results of animal studies)
It should be given only if the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk to the fetus.
It has been shown to cause growth retardation , decreased survival and congenital anomalies: cardiovascular and skeletal. If used throughout pregnancy and during lactation it causes increased post-natal mortality and offspring growth retardation.

I was on Prozac for the first part of my pregnancy and on Effexor for the remainder. My son was 4 weeks early but was just fine. He only stayed in the hospital for 72 hours, and was in the regular nursery.
The decision to stay on antidepressants was easy for me because without them, I do not function normally. My depression and anxiety spin rapidly out of control.
If you are more confident that you could handle pregnancy without the pills, then it may be worth trying it without them, because the long-term effects on babies whose mothers took these drugs during pregnancy is not known.
But if you are like me, and know you need the drugs, stay on them. My baby’s health would have been in far worse jeopardy if I had stopped taking the antidepressants.

I was on anxiety medication when I got pregnant and as soon as I knew for sure I was pregnant I stopped taking the medication at once. This was a HUGE mistake. I got depressed and when I went to see my doctor he was very disappointed that I didn’t talk to him first. He told me that I could’ve stayed on the medication because it’s okay for the baby. The only side effect is a low increase in the chance for baby to develop learning disabilities from anxiety meds. The doctor also told me that if I didn’t want to take the chance with the medication I should have been weaned off of it.
yes, for the first month, but they switched me to something else for the rest of pregnancy. My six almost 7 year old is very hyper, but normal for a boy. good luck and don’t worry about it right now, That could be your enemy more than that pill. Congrats, by the way!!!1
