i have read on webmd that xanax can be used, but not a lot. i would speak to your doctor and tell him your situation. maybe he can recommend something. i hope everything gets better. just try not to get too stressed. take it easy and make sure you are eating well, even if it’s hard to do. i know nerves can make you appetite nonexitent. good luck hun!! and congrats!!!!!
honey, i am so sorry that you’ve had to find out this news, especially during such a crucial time in your life when you need your mother the most. however, you need to see your doctor and talk to him about alternative treatments for anxiety. i have anxiety issues, and i try yoga, walks, tea, and just having a good cry when i need it. but medication is most certainly out of the question. during your pregnancy you have to stay calm and medication free, this is crucial to the life of your child. i know how hard it must be to go through something like this and i will most certainly remember you and your family in my prayers. also, a pastor, psychologist or a really close friend would be very crucial to your staying calm and pulled together at this time. the best thing you can do is to talk it though with people around you. God bless.
Ask your doctor and try some natural stress relievers. Massage, warm bath, plenty of rest and healthy eating. I’m sorry to hear about your mom. Pray and ask God help you deal with this. Everything happens for a reason that is often very hard for us to see. I know years ago when my mom got pregnant with my brother (I’m 19 years older than him and 31 now) she had to go off her depression medicine during the pregnancy.
Off the top of my head I know that Prozac is a category “B” drug, which means:
“Controlled studies done on animals in reproduction do not indicate risk to the fetus.
No adequate and well-controlled studies done on pregnant women. ”
Of course you need to talk to your doctor about your issues. If medication is in order they will give you something safe for your baby. Some couseling may just be in order though, to help regulate your moods & work through all of the emotions you’re facing now.
I find that cigarettes and whiskey nullify my feelings of anxiety quite effectively.
Wow! Raging hormones and a very ill mother!! What a burden you are carrying!
When I began taking Prozac, I was told by my doctor that because of ethical limitations on double-blind studies, there were no definitive answers about taking it during preganancy (because of its longevity, anecdotal evidence suggests it’s safe); BUT they do know the effects of a depressed mom are extremely detrimental to the baby.
Having said that about Prozac, I am sure there is an anxiety-specific medication out there that is safe to take while pregnant. Have a frank talk with your doctor, and if s/he is not comforting and helpful, consider interviewing another couple of OB/GYNS – your mood changes could continue (even without your mother’s illness) up to a year following the birth of your child. S/he might want to refer you to a psychiatrist for prescribing – this is a good thing, since they are the most familiar with the particulars of the multitude of medications available. A regular appointment with a psychologist would probably be very helpful, as well – having to handle the beginning and ending of life at once is an enormous burden to carry, and those close to you to whom you usually turn for comfort are carrying it with you!
Congratulations on your impending motherhood!
One step at a time, and you’ll come out okay!
