It is true it can make your contraceptive pills less efficient..but if your depression is that bad maybe it would be worth trying it and just using a condom for a while? hope you feel better soon xx
Yes, birth control pills will be rendered almost completely ineffective. St. John’s Wort is notorious for interacting severely with an enormous array of medications. It does this by overactivating a specific liver enzyme.
To be honest, the side effects of St. John’s Wort, particularly the common photosensitization are as bad or worse than the worst conventional antidepressants have to offer. Borderline Personality disorder, on top of that, is NOT a good condition to treat with medication, and especially not a good condition to treat with medication alone. They are largely ineffective in dealing with Axis II disorders, and are really only used to control things like self mutilation and suicide attempts.
The best way to manage Borderline Personality disorder has always been therapy. Long term therapy – which can be rough because of the tendency for Borderlines to sabotage such relationships. There are two modalities that are primarily in use, dialectical behavioral therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy. Regardless of which one you choose, you should find a therapist who is experienced in dealing with Borderlines.
Talk to your primary care doctor, he can find you a referrals. If you have a large university in the area which offers a Ph.D in psychology program, or Psy.D program, they may also have referrals or experts as part of their faculty who also see patients.
