Not pregnant at the moment, but plan to try for a baby in the next few years to come, just as so many girls do.<br />
I suffered from depression from the age of 12 and it got really severe age 13-16. I hated myself and self-harmed and let men abuse me because I didn&#8217;t think anyone wanted me anyway. I was bullied badly at one school I went to. I stopped going to school because of how people there made me feel and got into the wrong crowd &#8211; started smoking, drinking at 13 and then onto drugs at 14.<br />
I fell pregnant when I was a few months off 15 and I couldn&#8217;t cope with the idea and tried to pretend it wasn&#8217;t happening. I then miscarried and still haven&#8217;t quite gotten over it 3 years later.<br />
I got help from psychologists and a youth support scheme after a lot of effort into making them realise that them telling me they couldn&#8217;t help me due to money reasons even though they thought I needed it. I got into a really good school, restarted gcse&#8217;s and it changed my life because they understood me eventually and supported me through everything, including self-harm and breakdowns. Also having school work to focus on gave me something to be motivated about. I left school with 13 A*-B gcse&#8217;s which I am SO proud of myself for.<br />
My depression hasn&#8217;t been so bad lately &#8211; amazingly due to simply being on a certain type contraceptive pill &#8211; apparently my hormone levels must have been pretty screwed. I had been on antidepressants when I was younger but stopped them abruptly and I&#8217;m determined to stay off them unless it&#8217;s crucially needed. I also got more chances to socialise by living away from home and where there were other young people and adults who were always willing to talk. Home stress was also a major factor to the depression.<br />
So obviously, once I do choose to have a baby, being pregnant I wouldn&#8217;t be able to take the pill that has changed my moods.<br />
So I&#8217;m worried I would end up getting bed with depression again. And it&#8217;s not in my nature to say I don&#8217;t want kids because whatever my age, I guess I could be at risk of depression during pregnancy and subsequently postnatal depression.<br />
Do you think the doctor and a midwife would consider me as high risk for depression?</p>

<p><i>Answer by Elisabeth Musson</i><br />One of the risk factors for postnatal depression, is a history of depression. Pregnancy and early parenthood is a very stressful emotional time and you may find it more difficult to cope with it.  Health professionals are very aware of postnatal depression and are trained to assess and support you.  You would be asked questions about this when you first fall pregnant and if you need help and support, it would be very much available.  If you do decide to have a baby, ensure you have a lot of support from family, friends and your partner.  There is medication  and self help techniques that can be used to help if you do become depressed.  Good Luck.</p>

<p>It is perfectly normal and healthy to gain weight during pregnancy. This ensures that both yourself and your baby are being nourished properly. Weight loss after pregnancy can at times be slow for new mothers and be very frustrating. It is important not to start a crash diet shortly after you have had your baby. This will lead to health problems and possibly post partum depression. Many new mothers don&#8217;t realize, but even after pregnancy your body still needs an ample supply of nutrients to recuperate and it needs even more if you are breastfeeding. Breastfeeding mothers on average use an extra 500 calories per day, so don&#8217;t rush things.</p>
<p>Your doctor will undoubtedly recommend avoiding any sort of strenuous exercise until you have at least had your six week post partum visit. The truth is, that until this time you probably won&#8217;t be too up for anything too strenuous anyways. During this time walking is the best form of exercise, it not only will help improve your health, but it will also help you lose pregnancy weight.</p>

<p>Getting Started</p>
<p> * Eat lots of fruit, vegetables and whole grains. Foods high in fibre, such as these, provide you with many nutrients and also make you feel full longer. Other great food choices to consider are low-fat dairy products, poultry, most fish, lean cuts of beef and pork are also all good sources of protein as well as zinc,iron and B vitamins. * Keep tempting foods out of the house. If you don&#8217;t believe that you can control cravings for chips and icecream, as tasty as they are to eat, keep away and keep them out of the house. * Small portions are key. Don&#8217;t skip meals or limit your intake of fruits and vegetables, you&#8217;ll miss essential nutrients that you need. Instead, scale down your portions of higher calorie foods. * If you are breast feeding, feed your baby right before you start your exercise. Wear a supportive bra and comfortable clothing. Start out slowly. Start with light aerobic activity, such as walking, riding a stationary bike or even swimming. Avoid jumping or jarring motions. * Break up your routine. exercise in short sessions throughout your day. As you build up your stamina again, slowly increase the amount and the intensity of your workouts. * Bring your baby along. Your baby is in demand of your time and attention, so what a better way to spend it, helping yourself lose some pregnancy weight. Take your baby for a walk in a stroller or a carrier. If you prefer jogging to walking make sure you use a jogging stroller specifically designed for infants. Lay with your baby on the floor while you stretch. Hold him or her in your arms and dance around to your favorite music, they will love it. * Focus on your abs. Losing abdominal fat takes dietary changes and aerobic exercise, but abdominal crunches and other exercises that target your abs can also help tone your tummy. * Don&#8217;t forget your Kegels. These exercise won&#8217;t necessarily help to lose pregnancy weight, but they will help to tone your pelvic floor muscles. Simply tighten your pelvic muscles as if you&#8217;re stopping your pee in mid stream. Do this for five seconds at a time, four to five times in a row. The good thing about Kegels is that you can do them anywhere anytime and no one will ever know.</p>
<p>Remember it took 9 months or so for the pregnancy weight to get there, it&#8217;s going to take time for it to come off. Don&#8217;t lose your motivation and or get frustrated if results are slow coming, just keep going and you will see results soon.

<p>6) Sore breasts. This is mainly due to the new formation of milk in the breasts. The nipples may also become sore.</p>
<p>7) Weight loss. Immediately after pregnancy, a woman will feel a few pounds lighter than her usual weight. However, as her body adjusts to the new condition, it may rapidly gain weight, unless it&#8217;s carefully monitored.

A pregnant cat that I&#8217;m fostering went into labour a few nights ago and gave birth to 5 dead kittens. The vet has given her the all clear physically, but I&#8217;m worried about her mental state. She&#8217;s crawled into her basket and wants nothing to do with anything, including food, or anyone, which is just not like her.</p>
<p>Having never had a cat miscarry before I&#8217;m just unsure of what approach I should be taking.<br />

<p>In the last fifteen years in the field of endocrinology great deal of evidence that the loss of estrogen is generally occurring during the menstrual cycle is bringing about changes <strong>for women</strong> at increased risk for mood, anxiety and greed that has produced disease. Given the prevalence of these diseases in <strong>women,</strong> we are fortunate to have a better understanding of them.</p>
<p><strong>Women</strong> are more than twice as oftenbecome depressed. Research shows that they also suffer more from fear. To develop more phobias. <p>The cyclical nature of the secretion of estrogen may represent for the <strong>women of</strong> &#8220;particular vulnerability to mood disorders and anxiety, Dr.Mary Seeman reported in the Journal of the American Psychiatric Association&#8217;s influence in an analysis of dozens of studies on female hormones psychopathology in men and <strong>women.</strong></p>

<p>It was not long after my visit to Dr. Sherwin, I learned an important contribution to the value of ten years from studies book, estrogens, serotonin and affective disorders: Where is the therapeutic bridge?
