Article by Sean Jordan

Taking care of a small child involves a lot of responsibilities and constant attention. This does not mean that new mothers should neglect keeping fit. Exercising after pregnancy can help you lose weight, but also allow you to have enough energy throughout the long days and nights. You can also reshape your body to get the figure you had before. It has been proven that the higher level of physical activity also relaxes the minds and improves the mood, which can reduce the risk of getting depression after birth.

The main question most women have is when they should start exercising. The answer depends on a number of factors. If you have had a vaginal delivery without any complications, then you can begin to train your body only days after giving birth. Women who have had a c-section or experienced problems during the delivery should consult their physician before starting to work out. Generally, if you want to be on the safe side, you may want to rest more actively for six weeks after giving birth and begin exercising only afterwards.

The level of intensity of the physical activity is also very important. You should not rush and have long and tiring cardio and muscle strengthening training sessions. Recent research has revealed that intensive exercising after pregnancy can make the breast milk unpleasant for the baby. Still, if you have moderate physical activity this function will not be affected in any way especially if you wear a reliable supportive bra and breast feed your child before working out.

Most experts recommend that you start with very basic cardio exercises such as walking. You can even take your baby along if the weather is fine. Then you can begin jogging and swimming. If you want to work out more intensively in the gym and lift weights, you have to make sure that you increase the intensity of the training gradually.

Kegel exercising after pregnancy is really beneficial for your health and for your sex life. You can strengthen your pelvic floor muscle (the one you use to stop urinating) by squeezing it. Sets of 10 reps can be done twice to three times a day and increase the intensity gradually. You should not overwork this muscle and if you feel any discomfort you should stop immediately.

Overall, exercising after pregnancy has a number of advantages, but in order for it not to affect you negatively you should avoid dehydration and drinking plenty of water is of great importance.

Women, this is a must read for your spouse. Pass it on for your sake, and even more, his. Don’t let fear keep your partner from experiencing this life-changing event.

Sadly many women would prefer that dads stay out of the delivery room. In a survey taken by The Royal College of Midwives, 38% of women said they would rather have someone else in the delivery room with them. One in six mothers claimed men got in the way, while four in ten fathers admitted they felt “fairly useless” during the birth.

Many men wouldn’t dream of not being there but find that when they are actually in the room, they’re redundant. Some men are scared but consider how she feels. It isn’t much to ask for you to stand by her side. You can do that literally, just stay by her head if you get grossed out easily and are worried about fainting.

Men, prove to us women you aren’t just useless in the delivery room. Your spouse will be grateful and it will bring you closer together than anything else you have ever done. Most important is to pay attention to what she wants. Some women want to be left alone during labor. If that is the case then leave her alone. Communicate with her and let her know you are there for her if she needs anything.

What you can do to stay busy and to help her.

    * For some women the most important thing is to hold her hand so she knows she’s not alone.

    * Give her words of encouragement and support. Ex. “You’re amazing,” “You’re doing a great job,” and “I never knew you were so strong.”

    * Show her love. Tell her “I love you,” “You’re so beautiful.”

    * Remind her why she is in this pain. “We are going to be parents soon,” “You’re going to be a great mom.”

    * Get her a cold rag and wipe her forehead.

    * Feed her ice chips.

    * Message her feet or hands.

    * Bring a CD player and be her DJ. Making her a CD of her favorites would be cute.

    * Be the photographer.

    * Get her a gift before she goes into labor and give it to her. It will distract the pain and make her really happy. A mom necklace would be nice.

What NOT to do.

    * Never, and I mean NEVER tell her “Don’t Yell”. Leave that to the nurses. Let her hate them for it.

    * Absolutely no TV. If a TV is in the room don’t think about it unless she ask.

    * Don’t get in the way of the nurses or doctor.

    * Don’t bring food in the room. She won’t be able to eat so don’t tease her.

The decision about whether or not to attend the birth of your child is a personal one that should be made prior to labor pains. Men should discuss their feelings with their partner and both should select the option that will best suit them as a couple.

If you absolutely CANNOT see yourself being present for the delivery of the baby, consider a couple of alternatives. You can arrange to have another labor partner present so that if it all gets to be too much, you can leave the room either for a short time or until after the baby is born. You can choose to be present just for the labor or conversely just for the birth. You can also come in directly after the baby is born to celebrate the new life.

One of the main benefits of fish oil supplements is omega-3 fatty acid. According to studies, this particular acid reduces a number of health risks such as heart disease, high blood pressure and even cancer. Some experts say that even other organs and tissues also reap the benefits of fish oil based supplements.

Fish based oil also helps in the development of brain tissues during the fetal stages. During this stage of development, fish oil can also contribute to the health of retina and also reduce muscular degeneration. Fish based oil also prevents serious pregnancy complications such as premature labor and low birth weight and regular intake of fish oil supplements during pregnancy could help prevent port partum depression.

For adults, omega-3 improves memory, focus and reasoning. You could say that one of the benefits of fish oil supplements is it helps keep your mind young and healthy. On the other hand, children suffering from Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) will also benefit by having their psychiatric disorder reduced thanks to fish based oil.

A number of benefits of fish based oil supplements can be seen by studying Greenland Eskimos, a community known to have a diet consisting mainly of fish. There have never been any significant depression rates reported from Greenland Eskimos. The Japanese are also fond of fish, and they have a very low depression rate, especially when compared to their Western counterparts.

Besides lowering the risk of depression, fish oil based supplements also help prevent other psychological illnesses. According to University of Sheffield’s Psychiatry Department, omega-3 may help alleviate bipolar disorder and even psychosis.

Perhaps the biggest reason why fish based oil supplements have become popular in the Western world is because it is said to reduce heart diseases and heart-related illnesses. Studies have shown a large number of Americans have heart illnesses. The biggest benefits of fish based oil supplements are its ability to reduce triglyceride levels in the body.

Triglyceride is a type of fat commonly attributed to heart disease. Fish based oil reduces triglyceride which helps in the prevention of heart attacks, irregular heart beat and stroke. Taking fish oil based supplements regularly also lowers blood pressure.

Aside from the omega-3 fatty acid, there are two more types of acid found in fish based oil supplements that provides benefits to the body’s health. These acids are: eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).

EPA is believed to posses anti-inflammatory properties. The anti-inflammatory agents found in fish oil supplements may reduce painful conditions such as arthritis.

Some studies also suggest that omega-3 can help in the prevention of cancer, particularly breast, colon and prostate cancer. The omega-3 fatty acids stop healthy cells from mutating into cancer cells while causing cancer cells to die.

Of course a lot of people remain skeptic of the benefits of fish oil supplements and chalk it up as another type of alternative medicine. While some studies are still being conducted to either prove or disprove some claims of fish oil’s health boosting properties, many scientific studies have already concluded that a diet rich in fish is good for the body.

Rajagopalan has learned early in life the critical importance of omega 3 supplements to minimize health risks and maximize healthy living. There are too many fish oil supplements in the market that he has found to be very expensive, they do not deliver on results and are pure hype. To learn about the product that he has finally found to be most effective but at the same time least expensive, head over to ==> http://www.omega3fishoilsguide.com

One of the most interesting facts on ADHD was the story of boy who was misdiagnosed with ADHD and suffered nasty side effects from ADHD medications for a number of years. Thanks to his parents who did some research on ADHD and the facts, they found that the symptoms were caused by a parasite ! Bear in mind that ADHD can mimic other conditions. Here are a few :- the child may be epileptic, may have hearing problems, may have Tourette’s syndrome or may have a sleeping disorder.

One of the other interesting facts on ADHD is that the drugs industry have made enormous profits from ADHD, simply be producing a class of drugs which range from psychostimulants to anti-depressant drugs and non-stimulant ADHD meds. None of these drugs are capable of curing this disorder nor can they really be an effective treatment on their own. Many children will find relief from their symptoms if they are on these drugs (maybe up to 70%) but the side effects and risks are causing concern among a wide variety of stakeholders. These are medical and pediatric groups, parents, some doctors and of course the FDA who have to issue regular warnings on the use of these medications.

One of the other interesting facts on ADHD is that there is now a lot of evidence which shows that obese people have a much higher ratio of ADHD than the regular population. In one study, as many as 32% of the obese group had ADHD compared with about 7% of the general population. Once these patients were treated for ADHD, they started to lose weight. The desire to snack or nibble was just part of the hyperactive syndrome.

The cause of ADHD is not known but it seems to have been around for quite some time. A quote from Hippocrates describes a similar condition which is astonishingly similar to the symptoms we notice today which can range from non-stop motion, inattention and lack of focus. There is a definite genetic link and exposure to toxins during pregnancy may be another cause.

Yet another one of the interesting facts on ADHD is that ADHD behaviour therapy is supported by most medical associations as an essential element in any ADHD treatment program. Now that ADHD psychostimulants are regarded with some caution which is understandable, natural cures for ADHD which are made from herbal or homeopathic ingredients are gaining enormous popularity. The main reason is that they have no side effects or risks to the child’s health. Imagine not having to worry about loss of appetite, dosages, sleep problems, drowsiness or suicidal thoughts ! This could be a turning point in your child’s life.
