Lately i feel terrible. i’ve been trying to research online what exactly my problem is. i cant tell if i have depression or anxiety-it seems like both. i am 20 weeks pregnant so i know my emotions are going to be out of whack, but this is getting out of hand. i know SOME medications for anxiety/depression are safe during pregnancy, so please don’t respond saying i shouldn’t take anything.

my symptoms are:
-tired all the time, i sleep for insanely long hours
-i have no desire to get up and face the day and don’t look forward to tomorrow
-i cry so easily
-i feel like my life totally sucks and that i’m worthless
-sometimes when im having a crying fit, i cant stop and it gets to the point where i cant breathe

Can I be proven an unfit mother because I have been on anxiety medication for depression for the last year. The medication is approved for use during pregnancy and my current OBGYN prescribed it.

I have been extremely depressed and currently 22 weeks pregnant. I don’t think there is a day I don’t cry at least once and I just want to sleep and not move. I’ll have a better day here and there, but the good days seem to be fewer and fewer.

I totally don’t want to take any medicines at all b/c I know it can pass to the baby and no medicine is 100% safe. I already have an autistic child and I don’t want to do anything that may cause me to think a defect may be my fault later.

Selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are a popular class of anti-depressant medication. These drugs are prescribed for the treatment of depression, anxiety disorders and personality disorder. These disorders include obsessive compulsive disorder and eating disorders. Research suggests by elevating the levels of the neurotransmitter serotonin some symptoms of the disorders seem to be relieved. Low levels of serotonin are often indicated in anxiety disorders.

Can you be on depression medication while pregnant?

I thought I had heard somewhere that you shouldn’t take medication for depression while pregnant. Does anyone know if that’s true or not? I have been taking Lexapro for 4 months now and it’s helped me tremendously. I’m actually scared to stop taking it right now. My fiance and I have just begun talking about having a child within the near future. I expressed my concern to him about depression meds and pregnancy and my fear of having to come off of them during the 9 months of pregnancy.

Anyway thoughts would be wonderful. When the time comes I will check with my doctor of course, but anything will be appreciated.

Daily, I’m currently taking 10mg of Paxil for anxiety and 50mg of amitriptyline for migraines. I’ve suffered for so long with both conditions and it took me years to find the right medications to treat them. However, I’d also like to plan to become pregnant. My doctor tells me that while it’s not necessarily recommended, women can have successful pregnancies while taking anit-depression medication. Since I’m a big worrier, I was just hoping that someone out there who has been in this situation can share their story with me.

pregnancy and depression medication?

I’m just curious if taking depression medication during pregnancy is wise. I’m not pregnant, but when I am, I am scared to go off depression medication because I have severe depression when I’m not on it. I don’t think I could handle 9 months of that.

And how does pregnancy affect those with depression? Anyone?
