It is perfectly normal and healthy to gain weight during pregnancy. This ensures that both yourself and your baby are being nourished properly. Weight loss after pregnancy can at times be slow for new mothers and be very frustrating. It is important not to start a crash diet shortly after you have had your baby. This will lead to health problems and possibly post partum depression. Many new mothers don’t realize, but even after pregnancy your body still needs an ample supply of nutrients to recuperate and it needs even more if you are breastfeeding. Breastfeeding mothers on average use an extra 500 calories per day, so don’t rush things.
Your doctor will undoubtedly recommend avoiding any sort of strenuous exercise until you have at least had your six week post partum visit. The truth is, that until this time you probably won’t be too up for anything too strenuous anyways. During this time walking is the best form of exercise, it not only will help improve your health, but it will also help you lose pregnancy weight.

Okay since my last question I’ve received the results from the MRI which shows that I have a bulging disc. I’ve gained a lot of weight in the last year and am now dieting to lose it. Will this alleviate the pain and/or shrink the bulging disc? It takes a month to get an appointment with my doctor and I’m just wondering now. I’m scheduled for a visit with the neurosurgeon and want to avoid surgery if possible. Any advice? Please help. I weigh 225, am a female at 5’6 and just take 30 minute walks for exercise to help release some of the pain I feel. I was 195 lbs. but gained the weight after pregnancy which ended in miscarriage and depression. I’m back on track now but afraid. I know that the weight didn’t cause the problem but I’m wondering if losing weight will resolve it somewhat. The pain radiates down my right leg but feels better after I walk…sitting makes it feel worse. I’m 43 years old and a teacher. I used to wear heels to class everyday but won’t do that again.

I had a miscarriage 6 weeks ago. I had some depression afterwards, but I am doing better. I have always been an active person and have a normal weight for my height, but in the last six weeks I have gained 12 pounds. I am working hard to get the weight off, so we can start to try again. However, for the 4 weeks that I have been working out and eating better, I have yet to drop a pound. My question is, is this normal for my body to hold onto the weight or could it be something else? Has anyone else experienced this? I just want to lose some of the pounds and be healthier before the next pregnancy.

I was taking the HCG injection shot for weight loss purposes for about a month or so and lately have been having sore breasts, occasional cramping, spotting, moodiness, fatigue and depression. I took a pregnancy test and it came up negative. Just curious as to whether or not these symptoms could be from the injections rather that actually being pregnant.

Why do adoptees have a slightly higher incident of depression, Is there a connection to perinatal factors?
Was your child a low birth weight baby?
Does small birth weight and other perinatal factors affect risk of suicide? It appears to show up stronger in males.

Please no rude comments please, this is something that bothers me enough as it is and i would appreciate just some genuine help and advice, thank you.
Though it’s not a good thing i have always been one of those people who worries about looks way too much. I have battled with eating disorder after eating disorder and depression/anxiety over my weight my entire life. After getting up to about 145 lbs on a 5’3 frame the winter before last i decided to lose some weight and got down to 120 lbs. I was looking really good and then all of a sudden i found out i was pregnant. Now im 30 weeks pregnant and about 155, i know that everybody says you should be happy your weight is coming from your baby blah,blah.. but that isn’t the case with me. this sudden weight change has made me so depressed that i can’t even enjoy my pregnancy. I was looking the best i had ever looked and now i’m afraid ill never look that good again. Also, i had to stop smoking when i found out and that’s played a significant role. It’s just now i look at pictures of myself then and i feel disgusted, almost like i’ve let myself go. What can i do to speed up the weight loss after i have the baby, and also to slow down the weight gain rightnow? Also has anybody else dealt with this, if so what did you do? Will my body ever be the same again? How much of the weight you gain is from your actual baby and not just fat? I wish this didn’t bother me so much, but any feedback at all would be helpful.
