To those who suffered severe depression during pregnancy?

How long after the birth of your baby did you feel “normal” again? I’m a month away from delivery and the depression is pretty bad despite my being monitored by a psychiatrist who has me on anti-depressants. I’ve forgotten what it feels like to feel “normal”.

I have heard of a condition called post natal depression.
It is a very serious risk if you feel any feelings of anger or resentment about/to the baby.
Many parents who have been driven mad, have harmed and killed thier babies even though they would never normal harm anyone.
Others have neglected them and left them when they are hungry and various other things.
You must know for sure you can care for a child, if you can’t, it is better being fostered.
It is something to discuss with a psychiatrist, but you have to choose what you do.
I would like to think your develop into a loving caring mother.

I started feeling better as soon as I stopped analyzing everything. I have to live day to day and not htink about what could or might happen. That was what was bringing me down. I had to be admitted to the ER because I had a breakdown at around 30 weeks. The reality though, for both of us, is that it will get worse before it gets better. My doc said after the hormones from pregnancy are gone it’s really easy for it to worsen. Just make sure you keep in touch with your ob and psychiatrist. Good luck honey!
This is normal and even after your pregnancy you can develop post pardrum syndrome. I would suggest that you get some out side help like a counselor to help you cope with the depression because it can get worse.
Umm…with my first daughter I suffered a moderate amount of depression in the beginning of my pregnancy. I was overwhelmed with thoughts about how everything was going to change. After I had my daughter, that depression went away within 4 months (even though my hubby was in Iraq too). I didn’t take any medication or see a psychiatrist.
For my second daughter, I was severely depressed the entire time. I couldn’t feel emotionally attached to her, and even after birth I felt like I wasn’t really her mother. It took me a while, I’d say about 6 months, to get back to normal. Not that I didn’t love her…but I was severely depressed with prenatal and post-natal depression. I was diagnosed early on in my pregnancy, and I didn’t take pills (jic they harmed the baby). I did everything I could to get attached to her as well.
I’m now in my third pregnancy, and I have some minor bouts of depression. I’m due any day, but it’s not quite as serious as my second daughter.
A lot of women go through depression during and even after their pregnancies. If you get to the point where you are seriously considering harming yourself or the baby, you need to seek help immediately. The not feeling “normal” is completely natural even when you’re not depressed. Pregnancy changes everything about us, so naturally…we won’t feel normal during it.
